MARACCAS Film Crew were invited to be part of an inspiring Film Project that documents the history of the Australian Light Horse Troops from the Greater Sunshine Coast Region. Produced by NISER (National Institute for Socio-Economic and Environmental Research) and Earthbase Productions; and funded by QLD Government's ANZAC Centenary Grants Program - The Film was premiered at Cooroy RSL on ANZAC Day (2015) and was recieved positively by the community and stakeholders.

A valuable learning experience to be part of this Film Project working with experienced film maker James Muller of Earthbase productions and Producer Charles Shewring of NISER.

It was really moving to see so many passionate people, dedicated to what they do and really committed to keeping the 'Spirit' of the ANZACs alive. For us (and the entire production team), this project was not at all about glorifying war, but about celebrating mateship, comoraderie, and the courage of the men and their horses who fought.

There is a write up about the project on the QLD Government's ANZAC Centenery Website: http://anzac100.initiatives.qld.gov.au/grants/grant-project-profiles/war-horses.aspx

ANZAC Equestrian History of the Greater Sunshine Coast

Short Documentary Film

Throughout the process of filming, we discovered a largely untold story of the famous mounted charge of the 4th Ligh Horse Brigade that was the battle of Beersheeba (1917). Against all odds, and after trekking in the desseert with little food and no water, members of the brigade stormed through the Turkish defences and seized the strategic town of Beersheba. The Australian troops became known for their courage and bravery, and somewhat ~'crazy'~ character.

We produced a short film from the Beersheba day celebrtions at Toogoolawah.
