What an incredibe experience being in Florianopolis, Brazil.
Although it was pretty much raining the entire time we were there - we were priveliged to be able to be part of an amazing creative community, and experience the world of Theatre as it is in Floranopolis.
Thanks to the invitation by Floripa Teatro; Teatro Itinerante del Sol had a full itinerary of Bio Drama/Dharama workshops, seminars, and perfromaces throughout the duration of the festival 17th - 25th Oct.
The first 2 days, Jonas and I facilitated the workshops (3hrs each day) where we explored the concepts and some of the practices of Bio Drama, touched on the symbolism of the Tarot, investigated the Bhagavad Gita and concepts of yoga, talked about the Mayan Calendar, and worked with dance and movemnt excrcises as well.

After the group (Teatro Itinerante Del Sol) arrived from Colombia, the next 2 days of workshops were filled with intensive body and voice training, exploring dance and physical movement through the archetypes of the Tarot and the characters of Origines, as well as vocal improvisation with shamanic chanting and music. What a way to spend a day! After doing this kind of practice, you feel so liberated and able to express yourelf in whatever way, it's such a creative release. We were lucky to meet an incredble group of musicians and singers from Florianopolis (led by the magnificent Polo -Thankyou Polo for your wisdom, magic energy, and generosity) who invited us back to his home which he built himself. Where the walls are literally lined with musical instruments and every corner is filled with some kind of incredible piece of art work, symbol, totem or magic relic!

We spent the evening signing, dancing, eating delicious food and celebrating the magic of this world that is arts and ceative expression.

It was a very synchronised and coincidental moment finding this group (Actually the guys from Colombia met part of the group at the airport when they arrived in Florianopolis - meanwhile another portion of the group were attending the workshops facilitated by Jonas and I)
On the 5th day - As a seminar, A reading of Beatriz's play Ariquandale was presented by the group - Which i've probably not spelt correctly at all (Sorry Beatriz). This play is a story about a pilgramage through the indigenous tribes of America - from Patagonia to Alaska.
After this, we made a tree planting ceremony to show our gratitude to Floripa Teatro and the island of Floranopolis for inviting us for this special honor of being part of the 22nd annual theatre festival of Florianopolis.

Each of these days - we spent the afternoons rehearsing for our performances. and in the evenings, we were even able to watch a number of amazing and intersting shows presented by other groups.
The next 2 days (Sat and Sun) were our performances. We spent the day preparing the lighting cues with the theatre technicians. The first performance on Saturday was closed to the public, only guests of the festival and media were invited to attend. Finally on Sunday was the big presentation - open to the public - and the closing ceremony of the entire festival. What an honor.
Monday afternoon and evening was again spent at Polo's magic house. The Atlantic ocean is about a 40 minute walk away through these beautiful sand dunes and pools of fresh water. In true Bio Drama style, we walked in silence (the walk of power). I felt so free - I could not stop running up and down the dunes!! I had the humble pleasure of witnessing an indigenous woman from the Colombian Amazon meet and swim in the ocean for the very first in her life!! The smile on her face is an image i will never forget - and I have no doubt she will never forget that experience as well! What a glorious end to a glorious experience!!

El Camino Sacrado (The Sacred Path)

We completed the journey by planting another tree in Polo's garden to say thankyou and we cut open the gigantic pumpkin that we used in the play to represent the scene of abundance - a very symbolic moment. In fact every 'moment' in the journey of Bio Drama/ Bio Dharma is symbolic!
El Circulo Sacrado (The Sacred Circle)

The Tuesday after the show, we had an important meeting with the Artistic Director of the festival, who loved the show, and is excited to invite us back again for next year's festival (Which we are planning to present Ariquandale as a co-production with Polo and the music group from Florianopolis).
What a journey these past 2 months have been!
I am very grateful to have this opportunity to work with so many incredbly passionate, powerful (magically) and talented people!
